Mark’s journey is a powerful story of transformation, hope and divine intervention. Born in Marietta, Georgia, he was the fourth of five children, and life was good until tragedy struck. His father passed away when Mark was just 10 years old, and from that moment, things began to unravel.
At 12, Mark turned to alcohol as a way to cope with the pain of losing his father. He admits, “Alcohol became my best friend,” but it wasn’t a healthy or fulfilling friendship. By the time he reached adulthood, Mark was battling deep internal struggles. He carried a lot of anger and felt that life had dealt him a bad hand. “There was always something missing,” he says. Despite having a stable job for 15 years, alcohol and poor choices led to his downfall, costing him his career, his reputation and ultimately, his freedom.
Mark Experiences His Miracle
Mark describes himself as “Jekyll and Hyde” when he drank, often seeking out fights and making destructive decisions. His addiction spiraled further with meth use, and after years of struggling, he ended up in jail on a violent charge.
It was in that dark place where he experienced what he calls a “miracle.”
One fateful day, while in the release room at Carroll County Jail, Mark met Shane Davis, a man who would change the course of his life. Shane, the owner of a bonding company, approached Mark and offered him unexpected kindness. “He took me to the Best Western hotel in Carrollton, bought me a hotel room, gave me $20 to eat on, and said, ‘I’ll be back at nine o’clock to pick you up.'”
Mark recalls being bewildered but feeling a glimmer of hope. Shane then took him to 7 Springs Ministries in Alabama, where Mark found the support and healing he desperately needed.
“I didn’t know a soul in Alabama, not a soul. But it was the best thing that ever happened to me because it got me away from where I was,” he reflects.
Mark’s faith journey had already begun in jail, during a pivotal moment when he feared he was having a heart attack. As he was being rushed to the hospital, Mark made a promise to God. “If you get me out of this ambulance, I will serve you,” he vowed. And from that point, Mark began to live out his faith, striving to keep his commitment to God.
7 Springs Ministries: A Place for Physical Support & Spiritual Healing
At 7 Springs, Mark found not just physical support but spiritual healing. “I knew this was where I was supposed to be,” he says, and he quickly formed bonds with the people there who accepted him unconditionally. The community, the quiet reset, and the space to heal was exactly what Mark needed.
Mark has experienced incredible life transformation since arriving at 7 Springs. He shares, “God has done everything for me in the past year. I never thought I’d be sitting where I’m sitting right now.” His testimony serves as a reminder that no matter how far someone has fallen, redemption is possible.
Mark’s advice to others who might find themselves in a similar place of desperation is simple: “Take advantage of what you have here and be thankful for what you have here. You might not have much, but be thankful for what you’ve got because it’s coming. The fruits of that time will come to you. It will.”
